MEST 4: Critical Investigation & Linked Production Example

Critical Investigation:
What typical props are generally shown in gangster films.
Linked Production:
Produce a movie trailer that consists of being of the gangster film genre.
· Sound Effects:
Enhanced sound added to a film or television programme during postproduction. The superior sound added could possibly create an effective noise during the moving image production hence the video seem more realistic (e.g. In gangster films melons are slashed with knives in order to represent the sound of a body being stabbed). The dramatic effect of the sound may perhaps engage the audience by influencing them to seem as if they’re part of the situation that’s being shown on their screens.
· Genre:
Category of media products classed as being similar in form and type. As I will be researching the representation of props used in gangster films, it’s evidently clear that the linked production ought to illustrate conventions used in that specific genre by being a film trailer that consists of that genre type.
· Iconography:
The distinguishing elements, in terms of props and visual details, which characterise a genre. Unmistakably the critical investigation must be preformed as the trailer ought to include typical elements that are generally glamorised in a majority of gangster films. The research should clearly show evidence to what actually props are usually shown and stereotypical elements that are usually portrayed, which the evidence will obviously reflect the linked production.
· Angle:
The point of view adopted by a journalist in relation to a story. The various locations of where the camera is placed in order to film a sequence can make the end viewing more effective to watch as the different angles help empathise the central image. Surrounding the primary focus, the audience are able to see the main focus from different aspects hence making the viewing seem more realistic due to it’s surroundings thus making the video more engaging.
