Critical Investigation:
To what extent are props glamorised in Gangster films.
Linked Production:
A title sequence and opening sequence to a documentary based on teenaged delinquents (those who’ve watched Gangster films under the age and have been influenced by the iconography).

M.I.G.R.A.I.N. Analysis:
Media language...
To begin with I will firstly examine the types of props that are associated to the genre in addition to studying how the props are used and specifically by what character(s).
Secondly I will be closely analysing the use of various shots used in movies and how they effectively show and possibly empathies on what is being showed (e.g. A man holding a pistol, which the camera then cuts to a close up of the gun as the trigger is pulled).
Lastly I will listen and figure out the types of sounds edited in movies. If certain music genres is in fact relate to the text and due to the musical content exposing what is actually happening (e.g. Gangsta Rap song lyrics often tend to describe what is really going on in society in certain areas).

Ideologies...
Corruption in Gangster films plays a key role as it illustrates how characters strive for success despite the target they aim to archive is morally wrong. Corruption demonstrates how characters are influenced and can therefore reflect how teens in the linked production are influenced by elements in the movies and can show how far the teens are willing to go in order to achieve their aspiration.
Crime never pays given the fact that the bad guys (either protagonist of associate) always tend to die or are punished in the end. This can help reflect how the teenagers in the documentary are in fact putting their lives at risk and can therefore reflect the purpose of the documentary to find out whether if the teens are or aren’t worried about the ruthlessness they perform despite it being judged as bad (acting cool in their case).

Inconsideration is a critical element shown in all Gangster films since the gangsters in movies tend to complete their job/missions correctly as they wish but unfortunately always disrespects or threats another human hence illustrating that Gangsters do not consider anybody’s feelings/emotions other than them selves. Thus this can therefore help communicate they way in which the delinquent teenagers are effecting society and people around them.
Genre...
Principally the film genres I predominantly tend to study is Gangster considering I will be analysing all their codes & conventions and hope to research how they in reality brainwash public. Which most importantly how Gangster films especially effect the lives of those who in fact aren’t permitted to even watch the movies due to their young age.

Representations...
It’s a key element to analyse the genders that are predominantly shown as being the strongest links in films as playing the role of the protagonist. It’s also essential to see the way in which different genders are portrayed such as patriarchy or post-feminism etc. and if this actually causes an affect on the gender of the delinquent teenagers.
In a similar way to gender, I will also closely examine ethnicity. Unlike before ethnic groups shown in Gangster films can however influence audience effortlessly considering ethnicity can act a a source of superior greatness and possibly role models thus being the reason to why people in reality of the same race may commit the deeds shown in the movies as they may perhaps find it as a positive and rewarding value to perform.
Additionally to some extend location could also be considered as it illustrates where the criminals in Gangster films operate from and how they operate in certain areas. Location (e.g. American Gangster – Frank keeps his drugs away from home).

Media Theories:
Audience Theories...
Audience Theories...
My critical investigation can explore what ages do the movies of the specific genre should appeal to and I can possibly analysis the type of persons background (social class) the types of films have most effect on. Again my linked production will focus on social class (e.g. teenagers ranked as D1 are likely to commit more crimes than those ranked as C2 etc.). Particularly this will focus more on dept on age as it can challenge the ages in the documentary in comparison to the minimum age limit required to see certain films.
This study fits in to the contemporary media landscape simply because it demonstrates issues that in reality are focused upon by the national news and promotional campaign advertisements. For example knife crime is a current issue in the UK as the number of attacks have increased, which the linked production will actually illustrate/explain a knife carrier (deviant) and question why they carry a knife as well as how they were manipulated to carry a knife (relation to Gangster film props such as knifes).
